Legacies – a bequest in your will is one of the more traditional forms of giving to nab but remains a very important one. We rely heavily upon bequests to provide the care and help we give to thousands of visually impaired people in Northamptonshire.

There are two types of legacies:

Residuary bequests – this means that once your family and loved ones have been provided for, the remainder or a proportion of your estate is pledged to nab.

Pecuniary bequests – this means that you pledge a specific sum of money to nab.

If you would like to leave nab something other than money, describe the item fully. For example:

“ ……… my grandfather clock with the walnut case”.

A bequest enables you to make a planned gift to nab, whilst ensuring your dependants and loved ones are provided for. Charitable legacies are paid before tax is deducted, thus eliminating or reducing the amount of inheritance tax that might be due from your estate.

If you already have a will you can still make a bequest to nab without making a new one by using a codicil, which is an addition to your will explaining, modifying or revoking (parts of) it.

If you are considering making a bequest to nab in your will, please use our full name, address and our registered charity number as follows:

Northamptonshire Association for the Blind
Wardington Court
Welford Road
Northampton
NN2 8AG

Reg. no. 201240

Although it is possible to write your own will, there are many laws governing their legality. We therefore strongly recommend that you consult a solicitor to advise you about making or amending a will. If you need help to locate a solicitor in your area, contact us (Contact fundraising)or www.lawyerlocator.co.uk

If you would like further information about how a bequest could help nab contact us. (Contact fundraising).
